Dr. Ruchita Shah

Specialist Psychiatrist

Dr. Ruchita is a Specialist Psychiatrist with over 13 years of experience in the field and specialises in child & adolescent psychiatry. She graduated from GSMC and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, India and did her post-graduation in psychiatry from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India, a postgraduate Institute of international repute.

She has vast clinical, teaching, and research experience, having worked as an Associate Professor (Psychiatry) and as a Faculty for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry DM training program. Besides providing services for general adult psychiatry, she also has expertise in dealing with young people’s mental health problems.

Dr. Shah has been an expert in framing the Clinical Practice Guidelines of the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) for child and adolescent mental health disorders. She has been instrumental in developing a Manualised Parenting skills training intervention for Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, with a special focus on families. She has delivered talks and conducted interactive sessions related to stress management, managing stress during COVID, and with school teachers and counselors regarding psychological health and difficulties in school-going children.

She is a Member/ Fellow of various professional organizations, including the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP), Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS), the Indian Association for Social Psychiatry and Indian Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

She strongly believes that each individual despite their mental health issues has a unique profile of strengths and resources within themselves and their social environment, albeit hidden at times under the deluge of psychological symptoms. Empathetic listening, understanding the strengths, vulnerabilities, and contextual factors, bolstering adaptive coping, and implementing psychotherapeutic principles in daily clinical practice helps her to serve her clients well.
